MasonVotes was thrilled to help bring the Mason Youth Council to life in September of 2024, and we were thrilled to be back again this January in 2025!
Last Thursday, Alisa and I presented to the Mason Youth Council on project management. We taught them all the ropes of how to organize successful events through the creation of a project planner, garner an audience with strategic digital communication and branding, as well as win and seek out funding— all crucial parts of being a civically engaged community member.
We hoped to equip them with the necessary tools to host an impactful event or initiative within their council committees via the most serious way we know how to: running a waffle house.
Through our creative simulation, each subcommittee had to plan out the opening day of their waffle house, considering things like a attention-catching restaurant name, logo, unique branding, event logistics (key objectives, team member roles, timeline, budgets), and much much more.
With ideas ranging from a spin on Rufus Humphrey’s famous pancakes in “Gossip Girl” to a unique froyo-style self-serve concept, it was safe to say that the MYC members were filled to the brim with imagination and a knack for engagement! We loved how they combined artistic creativity with technical and strategic planning to create a successful vision for their own waffle houses. Now that's what we like to see!
I pulled in my own experience hosting MasonVotes events & working as its Marketing Director in order to educate the members on digital communications. Setting a narrative from the start is key to hosting a successful event and, even more important, gaining a loyal audience that will recognize what you do and continue supporting you.
I loved speaking to the Mason Youth Council members about all their different current projects (e.g. spotlighting local businesses, hosting a public health booth at the annual Turkey Trot, hosting a food drive for free holiday meals, and creating art kits for kids in hospitals). I left the meeting feeling content that these bright youth were working for our community. Mason is truly lucky to have such a wonderful Mason Youth Council!
