We say the youth are the future. Too often we only refer to teenagers and young adults. Too often we fail to realize that the young children today are the teenagers of tomorrow.

That was our team's thought process as we planned for our March Civic Workshop. This workshop was kid-centered, designed for children ages 7-12. Our educational content and immersive activities were crafted to engage but not bore. We knew we had to carefully balance fun activities with educational information.

We geared up Saturday morning with all the necessary equipment for battle: colorful markers, fun stickers, and a wide assortment of candy that may or may not have been from Easter Egg hunting.

Then we were ready to meet with our comrades and outline strategy for our final goal: kid world domination. Also known as: teaching children about the Presidency

RECAP: In our March Kids Workshop, we…

  • Learned about the President

  • Asked kids to identify traits that a good President would possess

  • Voted between different cartoon characters and filled out ballots

  • Created campaign posters + wrote policy ideas kids would enact as President

  • Ran for President in a mock election

It was wonderful seeing the kids so interested and involved! Participation during discussion was high, with children eager to raise their hands and contribute to the conversation. From drug use prevention to world peace, it was clear our kids were going places with their innovative ideas. Truly, with their minds and determination, the possibilities for the future of our country is endless!

Even from a young age, let's empower the youth to participate in our democratic processes and be an upstanding citizen!
